H2H event briefing

Event Marshall duties (Be on your site as per time in above table)

  1. The runners / walkers will be briefed prior to the start to ensure we keep everyone free from harm (see event brief sheet details over)
  2. Event Marshalls must wear a Hi-Viz vest, hand back the vest  to our Tail End Charlie who follows the last runners / walkers, this will be a signal to you your task is complete and you can stand down
  3. Stand on the approach side of the intersection at the footpath drop crossing area (as runners / walkers are approaching you), clear of the roadway, your direction assists runners / walkers to cross at the correct location
  4. At roundabouts, stand at the footpath drop crossing to direct runners / walkers so they don’t cut across the roadway/roundabout area. At Wai-iti / Otipua Rd use the footpath cyclepath crossing point on the eastern Wai-iti side of the roundabout.
  5. Ensure each road crossing point is clear for runners / walkers to pass through, stop the runners / walkers for any approaching traffic (vehicles have right of way) Some vehicles will stop for the runners / walkers – don’t direct them
  6. Warn approaching vehicles if required by hand signal that the fun run/walk is in progress
  7. Please bring a mobile phone in case of an emergency, if any event participant is in difficulty, check the problem, dial 111 for an ambulance if required. If you do not have a cellphone, go to the nearest house and dial 111
  8. Please note the latest time you need to be at your station. Stay on location until the Tail end Charlie advises you and asks for your Hi-Viz jacket
  9. KEEP YOURSELF and the RUNNER / WALKERS SAFE – stay off the road. THANK YOU

Event Starter (be on site by ?am)

Read out to participants prior to start:

"Good morning everyone and welcome, thank you for joining in our Fun Run

To keep everyone safe from harm, please listen carefully to this briefing:

  1. This is a fun Run or Walk, it is not a Race, there is no prize for first place
  2. For everyone’s safety, please run or walk on the left hand footpath or grass verge
  3. Please do not run or walk on the road (Hadlow: once you get onto Gleniti Road)
  4. Please observe all road rules – you do not have the right of way at intersections
  5. Watch out for approaching vehicles at the road intersections you cross at
  6. Follow any directions of the Event Marshalls at each intersection
  7. The Event Marshalls are there to assist you to cross safely and to warn approaching traffic of your presence – they cannot stop the traffic.
  8. There are a number of water refreshment locations on the route
  9. If you need help or observe a runner that needs help, please ask for assistance from the nearest Event Marshall, or go into the nearest house
  10. And finally, if you have a dog with, please have it on a lead and clean up any mess it leaves on the way!

Thank you for listening, have a great time."
